Committee History
The Committee to Keep Dexter a Village was formed in 2012 for the purpose of getting a referendum on whether the Cityhood Process should continue or be halted. We were successful in getting the issue on the ballot for a vote in May 2013. The results of the election were 52 more votes in favor of continuing the process. While the majority of voters in the Scio Township portion of the Village were against continuing down the path to becoming a city, a majority of voters in the Webster Township portion supported it.
The Committee continues today with the same belief that the benefit to our community is not sufficient to warrant the Village becoming a city. This site will cover the pros and cons of making the change and provide the rationale for staying a Village.
The Committee welcomes members of the community who wish to join us. Our goal is to defeat becoming a city by getting out the NO vote on the city charter this November. Critical to achieving our goal will be voter turnout. This is an up or down vote on cityhood. It is not a "done deal" as some people have said. Those who believe as we do, need to make their voice heard by sharing with others how they feel and voting NO.
