My Point of View
Jim Smith
While the result of the vote on the proposed city charter is not the outcome that I preferred, it is outstanding that we achieved a 61% voter turnout and the voters have made their choice.
I am proud to have co-chaired the Committee to Keep Dexter a Village and to have been given the opportunity to speak out about the cityhood issue. We ran a good campaign with the purpose of getting people informed.
Moving forward...
I look forward to being a part of the new City Council and I appreciate the support of our citizens who voted for me. I will be joining many of the same people that I served with on Village Council from 2007-2012. Congratulations to Village President Keough on his election as the first City Mayor and to the other members of the Village Council who are now members of the City Council. I believe this group will ensure a smooth transition.
