Election City Charter Township Difference
The Difference in Townships
The Village of Dexter lies in portions of two Townships in Washtenaw County. Originally, the Village was completely in Scio Township. Over the years additions were made to include properties located in Webster Township. This was primarily for the purpose of supplying water and sewer services to developments west of the viaduct.
Scio Township - Public Safety Millage
When Scio considered a Public Safety Millage, they understood that Village residents were already paying for and receiving police and fire service through the Village operating millage. Therefore, Scio decided to exempt Village residents from their Public Safety Millage. |
Webster Township - Public Safety Millage
When Webster proposed a Public Safety Millage, they chose not to find a way to exempt Village residents from the millage. Webster has just re-confirmed this choice when they decided to put the renewal of this millage on the November 4, 2014 ballot. They again are going forward with their Public Safety Millage without exempting Village residents from the burden of paying twice for the same service, paying both the Village and the Township. |
